Gongs were first mentioned in Chinese records from the sixth century, which stated that the instrument originated in a region between Tibet and Burma. When this brass Ghanta is struck by its cane stick, it emits a soft humming sound. As you are aware, the sound of the "Ghanta" (typically made of bronze) draws positivity and expels negativity, aiding in the purification of the space. As a result, it is used in temples for Arti, Bhog, and other types of worship. There are two different sounds that gongs make. A gong with a largely flat surface vibrates in various modes and produces a "crash" as opposed to a tuned note. Both of these different instrument categories are frequently referred to as "gongs."
