World Art Day

Art is the compilation and ensemble of human cognitive abilities, creative input and expression to create something visually or non-visually and artistically appealing. Art may or may not carry a message or add a touch of sophistication, but it makes life enjoyable and worth living. Moreover, arts bring out the most innovative, efficient ways to deal with life while representing what human skill can incorporate in art pieces like paintings, sculptures, tapestries, statues, posters, and hand-made stationery.

To create awareness among the general public regarding art and artists, world art is celebrated yearly on the 15th of April. In this article, we will talk about everything about World Art Day.

What is the History of World Art Day?

As Stella Adler said, “Currency of civilisation is art” We must preserve art and support artists and their endeavours. For preservation and awareness regarding fine arts, world art day is celebrated on the 15th of April. IAA, or the International Association of Art, initiated awareness for creative and artistic activity in fine arts. The first proposal for this day was put forward in the 17th general assembly in Guadalajara. Bedri Baykam of Turkey, Rosa Maria Burillo Velasco of Mexico, Anne Pourny of France, Liu Dawei of China, Christos Symeonides of Cyprus, Anders Liden of Sweden, Kan Irie of Japan, Pavel Kral of Slovakia, Dev Chooramun of Mauritius, and Hilde Rognskog of Norway supported the proposal and eventually accepted by the General Assembly.

This day also marks the birthday and is celebrated as honouring Italy's most remarkable and legendary artist and polymath, Leonardo da Vinci. Today, Da Vinci symbolises world peace and freedom of expression while including art as crucial as other fields.

Firstly, this day was celebrated in 2012 in the presence of the IAA national community and 150 artists from different nations like France, Sweden, Slovakia, South Africa, Cyprus and Venezuela. Every country showcased other fine art as a celebration of art.

In 2013, this day was celebrated at the Mbombela municipal art museum in South Africa and other parts of the world. This day has also been supported digitally by the “Google art project.”

What are the Ways to Conserve Art?

As we all know, Art cultivates and merges creativity, innovation and cultural diversity worldwide and plays an essential role in depicting civilisations, human nature and storytelling. To maintain and create better space for art and artists, we must preserve their freedom of speech and develop a suitable atmosphere for working.

Here are some of the ways we can preserve art –

  • People should discuss art while engaging in debates, discussions, interviews and talks.
  • Special care should be taken to preserve their freedom of speech and expression.
  • It should not be frowned upon that art does not add up to creating something meaningful and productive. Furthermore, Art should be considered no less than other occupations.
  • A proper education system regarding awareness of art in institutions, schools and colleges should be promoted and implied.
  • Instead of buying fancy and designer things, try to support handmade and local artefacts supporting local artisans.
  • Buying local art forms, paintings, bandhanwar, and statement pieces will support the movement, like vocals for locals.
  • Find any existing art form from your community, locality and family and share it with the public.
  • Do not refrain from sharing artefacts that you like and use in your home or space decoration on social media. Popular platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube and Pinterest amplify the reach of artists.
  • Records, journals and videos of artefacts will help preserve art forms for ages.
  • Host fairs and visit museums to raise awareness towards particular art or different art forms.

Overall, art is the building block of order in society while providing information, entertainment, and storytelling. World art day is crucial in celebrating art while raising awareness about art, artists and artefacts among general people. We wish you a Happy world art day!!
