World Earth Day

Earth, often known as the mother, cares for us humans as a mother cares for her child. Earth provides an apt environment, food, water, fuel, raw materials, nature and atmosphere perfectly aligned to support and sustain life. But Humans, in return, have polluted and exploited these resources for their power, greed and over-development. We act so irrationally that another planet awaits us to lead into a paradise like mother earth. We must understand the impact of our actions on the world's condition; with the rapid rise of climate changes and global warming, it's alarming and high time that we must take steps and be accountable for actions leading to a better environment.

A movement started in 1970 known as earth day to raise awareness of the environment and earth. Since 1970, every year, 22 April is celebrated and honour as Earth day.

What is the History of Earth Day?

Before Earth Day's history, there was a constant surge in pollution, especially air pollution. America was the hub of radiating air pollution due to significant industrial growth. By-products of these industries were harmful hazardous gas along with the inefficient output of products. To supplement these industries, there was also a rise in automobiles exponent to air pollution. Earth's condition was deprecating and worsening at that time, and in mid of that, a book name "Silent Spring" was published. This book was written by "Rachel Carson" in 1962 and described and talked about the environment, public health, awareness towards organisms and pollution. This book set the stage towards understanding the environment, earth and living organisms. After this book, in 1969, the damage of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, led to awareness about air and water pollution. By 1970, there was awareness and acceptance of the deteriorating condition of the earth. Finally, several bills and policies were made to protect the environment and marked world earth day.

What are the Steps to Protect Earth?

  • You must have heard the slogan - reduce, reuse and recycle; following this step will solve the maximum environment-related problems.
  • Water is another resource that should be protected and preserved for future generations. Fix leakages and reduce water waste, a simple way to protect water resources.
  • Use energy-efficient appliances, turn off lights when you leave a room, and switch to LED light bulbs, thus helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve energy.
  • Use public transportation, carpool, walk, or bike instead of driving alone. This helps to reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Trees absorb carbon dioxide and provide oxygen, so planting trees is a great way to combat climate change and improve air quality.
  • Support the development of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. These sources of energy are sustainable and do not produce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Choose products made from sustainable materials, such as bamboo or recycled plastic, and avoid over-packaged or disposable products.
  • Support conservation efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats. This helps to preserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem balance.
  • Educate yourself and others about environmental issues and ways to preserve the environment. Spread awareness and inspire action to make a positive impact on the environment.

What are the Topics of Environment Awareness?

Raising awareness about the earth and atmosphere is essential in promoting environmental conservation and sustainability. Here are some ways to promote awareness:

  • Governments, non-profit organisations, and private companies can launch campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues like air pollution, climate change, and deforestation.
  • The media can be critical in raising awareness about environmental issues. Television, newspapers, and online platforms can be used to share stories about ecological conservation and sustainability.
  • Collaboration between individuals, communities, organisations, and governments can raise awareness about environmental issues and promote practical solutions.
  • Educate people about the earth's and the atmosphere's importance in sustaining life. Schools, colleges, and universities can incorporate environmental conservation and sustainability into their curriculums.
  • Social media platforms can raise awareness about environmental issues, share information about conservation efforts, and inspire people to take action.
  • Events and activities such as tree planting, beach cleanups, and environmental awareness walks can help raise awareness and promote action towards conservation efforts.

By promoting awareness, we can inspire people to take action and positively impact the earth and the atmosphere.

The relationship between the earth and humans is complex and multifaceted. Humans rely on the planet for resources such as water, air, and food, and the earth provides the necessary conditions for life to exist. However, in the quest to make a comfortable life for us, humans have increased activities such as deforestation, pollution, and climate change, negatively impacting the earth's health and ecosystems. Humans must recognise their responsibility to preserve the earth's natural resources and minimise their negative environmental impact. The sustainable use of resources and the conservation of ecosystems are critical to maintaining a healthy relationship between humans and the earth for current and future generations.
